'Geosites Route' Kit
As you explore the Arouca Geopark Geosites Route, by car and on foot, through 31 of the 41 sites of geological interest of high scientific, tourist and/or educational value – which we call geosites and which make up this UNESCO Global Geopark – you will discover a new way of looking at tourism, culture and science.
Clearly signposted, the Route is equipped with route entry signs, directional signs, pedestrian and/or road information signs, as well as identification banners at all geosites. This route passes through interpretation centres, observation platforms, footbridges and/or interpretative panels that transform the journey not only into a walk, but also into an opportunity to learn about the many stories of our planet.
The guidebook “Route of the Arouca Geopark Geosites” is the ideal companion for anyone setting out to explore this unique area. Leafing through this guide is like travelling through centuries upon centuries of life’s history on Earth, shaped and moulded by nature.
Divided into three itineraries, on this route and with the help of this guide, you can visit ‘A Freita: the enchanted mountain range’, encounter history ‘Through the mines and hidden corners of the Paiva’ and let yourself be carried away by ‘Paiva: the surprising valley’. On each itinerary, the map and information about the geosites are complemented by other points of interest, and at every turn you can discover the history, geology and culture here in this UNESCO-recognised area, the Arouca Geopark.
[The ‘Geosites Route’ kit consists of a rucksack, with a free copy of the guide ‘Route of the Geosites of the Arouca Geopark’]
